Settlement Visa

Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), often referred to as “settlement,” is a significant milestone for individuals wishing to settle in the UK permanently. It grants the holder the right to live, work, and study in the UK indefinitely, without any time restrictions. Additionally, ILR  serves as a pathway to British citizenship.
The process of applying for ILR varies depending on an individual’s circumstances. Some common routes include:

  • Work-based ILR: Individuals who have been living and working in the UK under a relevant work visa, such as the Skilled Worker Visa or Tier 2 General Visa, may be eligible to apply for ILR after completing a specified period of continuous residence and meeting other requirements.
  • Family-based ILR: Spouses, civil partners, unmarried partners, and children of British citizens or individuals settled in the UK may be eligible to apply for ILR based on their family relationship, provided they meet the necessary criteria.
  • Long Residence ILR: Individuals who have legally resided in the UK for a continuous period of 10 years or more may be eligible to apply for ILR under the Long Residence route, subject to meeting specific requirements.
  • Tier 1 Investor or Entrepreneur ILR: High-net-worth individuals who have made significant investments in the UK economy or have established successful businesses may be eligible to apply for ILR under the Tier 1 Investor or Entrepreneur routes, respectively.
