Basic Job descriptions

NMC Registered Nurse (Basic)

Responsible to: Manager / Head of Care.

Purpose of the position:

  • To provide and maintain the standard of patient care required by NMC code of professional conduct
  • To ensure the observance of the Employers policies and procedures
  • To organise, facilitate and monitor the philosophy based on the nursing process.
  • To be competent in the specific nursing skills required in the speciality of your position /training.
  • To deploy nursing staff and monitor / control their work to ensure that total patient care is provided to the agreed standard.
  • To realise that there will be a large amount of hands on nursing involved.

Scope of Authority:

  • The RGN is to take decisions on all routine matters of all departments when in charge of a shift.

Professional Matters:

  • To be aware of and adhere to the NMC current codes of professional conduct.
  • To take every opportunity to maintain and improve professional knowledge and competencies and to share this with your fellow professionals.

Training:

  • To induct new members of staff into the team so that they quickly become effective.
  • To monitor performance of carers and auxiliary staff and to counsel, train, and encourage them as necessary.
  • To monitor and maintain staff moral and discipline by developing good communication and interpersonal relations with all departments.
  • To build team spirit and motivate staff towards a high standard of care.
  • To know and enforce disciplinary policies of the home.

Health & Safety:

  • In accordance with the health & safety act of 1974, ensure as so far as it is reasonably practicable the health, safety, and welfare of yourself, the home owners patients / residents and visitors. You are required to enforce to enforce the Health & Safety Policy of the home and to be aware of the statutory requirements within the act. Attendance of training provided within this field is usually compulsory.
